Not to demean Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, or Dorset — though actually I haven’t quite got to Dorset yet — as I do intend to write about them, with pictures, soon … but I wanted to let you know that today, today I bought my last Ordnance Survey map.
Yes. The very last map for my walk across England.
I am in Salisbury, approximately 25 miles from the sea. This could be done in two days, but to make it slightly more fun — as I’ve managed to develop one last (I hope) blister — I’m planning three. I may need a rest day but the plan is to be done on Saturday.
I’m in superstitious fear I’ll twist my ankle tomorrow. Or the Avon valley will flood impassibly. Or….
I have so much to write about later: orchards of apples and mistletoe! Stratford! Oxford! Other glories of Worcestershire besides its sauce! White horses of varying ages! Avebury henge — Woodhenge — Stonehenge…
But that will come later. For now, I am three days from the sea.
